Our lent journey to easter - 2021

FOR THE COMMUNITIES OF SAINT STEPHEN’S AND HOLY TRINITY

To begin Lent together this year, we are encouraging both church communities to join the Ash Wednesday Day of Prayer and Evening Service being organised by Christian Climate Action Bristol.
We think it is important to reflect on the meaning of Lent and the current climate and ecological crisis. This is an opportunity to share prayers, readings and silence reflecting on the Earth, our Common Home. Click the link above for more information about the day of prayer.

The Church of England’s #LiveLent theme for this year is based on the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent book for 2021, Living His Story by Hannah Steele. They have shared the below interview on this subject.

#LiveLent 2021.jpg
The invitation of this year’s #LiveLent to all of us is to participate in God’s story. To make it so much part of our own stories that our own lives become impossible to understand without it.

And then to be tellers of this story, and the change it has brought to us, to those who fear all they will ever have is their own drama.
— Archbishop Justin Welby & Archbishop Stephen Cottrell

We are encouraging the communities for Saint Stephen’s and Holy Trinity to engage with #LiveLent2021 - God's Story, Our Story.

There’s a bible passage, reflection and prayer to take us on our Lent journey to Easter, exploring the following themes:

  • Start of Lent - The Greatest Story of All Time

  • Week 1 - Catching Up with God

  • Week 2 - Stories of Transformation

  • Week 3 - Communicating like Jesus

  • Week 4 - Sharing the Story

  • Week 5 - Listening for Echoes

  • Week 6 (Holy Week) - Being Found by Jesus

You can access this on your smart speaker or social media if you follow the Church of England streams. There is also an App. or you can simply sign up for daily emails. Find links here.
We will also have a few booklets to send to those without access to engage online and the God’s Story, Our Story message will be shared on the free Daily Hope phoneline - 0800 804 8044 if you know of anyone who would prefer to access it that way.

Additional Resources - 40 Day Activity Sheets for all the Family

These are a really simple way for you or as a family to journey through Lent. You can complete them in any order and cross them off as you go. The first is a 40 day activity challenge to take up something new each day instead of give something up. The second has 40 self-care activities to show yourself some love in this challenging season.

Come to Life

'Come to Life' is being shared by the Hazelnut Community Farm with Bristol churches, as their 2021 Lent Course as we seek to engage our communities with the Easter message of life in Jesus, and the impact that his good news has for all of God's creation.
